You guys never learn… or are you just bored?
I’m pretty sure I gave you work to do.
Ohh—
It’s even bigger than I thought.
A real boulder, this one.
You two—stand back.
SFX: GAA!! — explosive impact
SFX: DOGO!! — crash / rumble

Doura: What is it?
Doura. Why would you make a canal or something like that?
Don’t tell me you don’t know…
You… …know something about it?
That’s a huge detour!!
That’s why they’re putting a canal here.
When carrying things to Shama, they take a sea route like this.
That’s why we’re going to dig a canal right here.
Ohh, I see!!
But… why there?!
“Cross”?
Page 8
Cross – Why must we, the Lumer, do something that would draw attention in Deskunte!?
Doura – The plan to build a canal here has existed since long ago, but Gariyan/Kariyan
Cross – Karyan?
Doura – There was a sacred creature for our people, called Karyan. That incident was the trigger , we were driven out of our village and our parents were killed. Other peoples, aside from the Lumer, insisted that the Karyan be exterminated.Because the Karyan attacks and eats anyone who isn’t from our Lumer tribe.
This entire area is the Karyan’s habitat. During the planning of the canal, Deskunte’s workers were attacked, and the construction project was halted.
It’s not that we have to do it — only we can do it.
Cross-That doesn’t answer it,who drove us into this land?
To this parched land where no proper crops grow!!! Why should we work for Deskunte?
It’s not for Deskunte — this is for the Lumer.
In this country, where strength easily translates into power, you might not get it.
Page 9
Doura: Even if we’re attacked, if we just keep striking back… then nothing will ever change. If the Lumer don’t change, Deskunte won’t either.
Doura: For people of different lands and bloodlines to coexist, they must share something in common — something that connects them through both space and time.
Cross: Coexistence…?
Doura: Yeah. When people live side by side, having something that passes between them makes it easier to accept each other’s differences.
Doura: A canal would be just that — a shared link between the Lumer and Deskunte peoples.
Doura: Once the canal is completed, we’ll draw water from the Lumer River to the Kyamar village. That water will flow through the settlements and into the farmlands.
Even if the land is dry now, if we can keep clean water flowing constantly, diseases among children will drop drastically.
Cross: …I don’t understand.
Page 10
Maru: Cross… isn’t coming today either…
Doura: Yeah… Guess he’s still sulking.
Cross’s way of thinking isn’t necessarily wrong.
Actually, that’s what most people believe.
Since everyone thinks that way, I just went ahead and worked alone.
Maru: Ah!!
SFX: (Gucha — loud crash / destruction sound)
Maru: Th-the section we dug out yesterday!! The whole embankment’s collapsed!!
Maru: This can’t be…!! Cross would never do something like this!!
Doura: … Cross wouldn’t. But there are others who’d take advantage of this situation.
Maru: So the culprit is…!?
Doura: Most likely the scum who slipped into camp. We’ll have to deal with them before we can get back to work.
Doura: …No time to rest, huh.
