Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 3 takes readers deeper into the escalating tension between sorcerers, humanity, and the mysterious alien visitors who’ve turned the world upside down. The first two chapters focused on diplomacy and distrust, but Chapter 3 throws the characters into their first truly dangerous mission — a horrifying “man-eater” case that could shatter their fragile alliance.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains detailed spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 3. Proceed with caution if you haven’t read it yet.
Mission in Gifu: The Sorcerers Mobilize
Chapter 3 opens with the sorcerer squad — Usumi, Yuka, Tsurugi, and Maru — being dispatched to Gifu Prefecture, a rural region far from Tokyo’s usual cursed spirit activity. Their briefing is simple yet ominous: a so-called “man-eater” has been sighted and must be neutralized before more lives are lost.
The situation immediately raises eyebrows. Tsurugi notes that cursed spirits rarely appear outside Tokyo, long considered Japan’s “supernatural hotspot.” For decades, sorcerers haven’t dealt with major incidents beyond the capital — until now.
Yuka and Usumi investigate further, uncovering disturbing details. Witnesses claim the man-eater resembles a shark, even though sightings have occurred in dense forests far from rivers. Two confirmed deaths and three eyewitness accounts confirm that something unnatural is roaming the countryside.
Suspicion quickly turns to the aliens. Yuka openly suggests that Maru and his people might be involved, accusing him of hiding information. This accusation sets the tone for a heated conflict between the human sorcerers and their alien ally.
Sorcerers vs. Aliens: Trust on the Brink
Maru doesn’t deny the possibility but insists that things aren’t as simple as they seem. Tsurugi, frustrated, accuses Maru of holding back his power during previous incidents — including a kidnapping that could have been prevented. Maru counters that he was under strict orders not to interfere, sparking a philosophical clash about duty, trust, and moral responsibility.
The Arrival of Nagata: A Retired Sorcerer
Just when tensions threaten to boil over, a new character enters the stage — Nagata, a retired sorcerer and Jujutsu College graduate. Despite Tsurugi teasing him for being past his prime, Nagata quickly establishes his authority.
Nagata reveals the shocking truth: the “man-eater” is not a curse or alien threat but Toranosuke — a tiger descended from illegally imported big cats decades ago. Driven by hunger and thirst, Toranosuke has wandered into human territory, leaving tragedy in his wake.
For Nagata, this mission is personal. He once cared for Toranosuke as a cub and still feels responsible for its fate. Unlike Tsurugi, who insists the beast must be killed to protect villagers, Nagata believes Toranosuke is a victim of human negligence and deserves to live.
Nagata’s Trump Card and the Cliffhanger Ending
In the final pages, Nagata shows that his sorcery skills remain sharp. Using his unique blood-scent detection technique, he tracks Toranosuke through the forest, calling to it as if addressing an old friend.
The chapter ends on a tense cliffhanger as something stirs in the darkness. Toranosuke is about to appear — and the next chapter promises a dramatic confrontation where the sorcerers must choose between killing and saving the creature.
Why Chapter 3 Is Crucial
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 3 isn’t just about monster-hunting — it’s about moral dilemmas and world-building. Tsurugi and Maru represent youth and conflicting ideals, while Nagata embodies experience and compassion. The chapter challenges readers to ask difficult questions:
-
Should Toranosuke be killed to protect humans, or spared as a victim of environmental collapse?
-
Should Maru follow orders blindly, or act to save lives even if it means betraying his people?
By the final page, Chapter 3 proves to be more than action-packed. It’s a layered exploration of trust, responsibility, and the blurred line between monster and victim. The reveal that the man-eater is not a curse or alien but a tiger driven mad by human actions adds tragic weight to the story, setting the stage for an emotional showdown in Chapter 4.

Title-Swimming Through the Forest
Page 1
A man-eater appeared.
This time’s mission will probably be its extermination.
Yuka-Huh? That’s the government’s job, isn’t it?
Tsurugi-Is there any reason for sorcerers to stick their noses in?
Usumi-The site is Gifu.
Yuka-Huh? Gifu…
Tsurugi-Now that you mention it—yeah, the shark that swam upstream in the river.
Usumi-No, This shark swims through the forest.
Page 2
Tsurugi-Don’t talk to me.
………………Cursed spirits only appear in Tokyo.
Maru-Cursed spirit?
Tsurugi-So today, it’s okay to talk to me, right?
You don’t know? You guys use jujutsu too, right?
Yuka-The people of this country—what they call cursed energy—is something that leaks and accumulates. The true nature of yokai and strange phenomena starts with this.
Tsurugi-Missions like this extermination of abnormal beings’ haven’t occurred anywhere outside the supernatural wasteland of Tokyo for the past several decades.
And then, the moment the aliens showed up, this happened.
PAGE 3
Maru – Huh?
Yuka-They’re saying that the true identity of this ‘man-eater’ might be you aliens.
Maru-Sorry… I’ll talk when the time comes
Hey,what I just saw—my version isn’t like that!!!
Yuka-So it really is aliens, isn’t it?
———————————————
Yuka-Just like Usami-san, you have some reason you can’t say anything, right?
You’re not a bad person, Perhaps
Victims: 2
Witnesses: 3
Next to the body of the victim that was torn apart, [they] said they saw Shark At both scenes, there was no water source nearby.
It’s a bit late to say this, but could I have been mistaken?
Hey sis, I definitely saw it.
??? – I have seen it in a night without moonlight… with these eyes
PAGE 4
Yuka-So, I guess I misseen it.According to the autopsy, the bite marks on the body seem a little different from those of the parents. I’ll talk to the other witness and then meet up.
Tsurugi-“That’s what they’re saying.
Maru- Hmmmm
—————————————-
Tsurugi-Beneath the surface, I think a war of invasion by aliens is about to start. I’m asking if they’re really invading or not.
Maru- What do you mean by that?
We’re doing this so that doesn’t happen
PAGE 5
Maru- And you,do humans even have enough reason and morality to talk about aliens?
Tsurugi-Huh? Coming into someone’s house uninvited, and you’ve got a lot to say, huh?
Maru-I didn’t do it because I wanted to
Maru-You’re saying something like I’m your little brother!!!! What part of me is an idiot!!!
Tsurugi-That thing that took down the kidnapper in front of the seal!!!! I don’t know what kind of technique it was, but if you could do something like that, why didn’t you do it early?
Maru-Enough! I already explained. I was ordered from above not to interfere in the mission.
Tsurugi-Is that order really more important than a kid’s life?
Maru- That…
PAGE 6 & 7 DOUBLE SPREAD
Tsurugi- Get out of the way!
Maru- Wait!! If we use a cursed tool like Tsurugi’s here, wouldn’t it cause a wildfire!?!?
Tsurugi- Fair Point
PAGE 8
Tsurugi- Then, can you do anything, you useless fool!!!”
Maru-What—what are you talking about!!
Maru-With this, you can cut without using fire, right!?
Tsurugi-Don’t underestimate me!!!! I don’t need that kind of help!
PAGE 9
??? – Hmph Huh?
Maru-An old man!
??? -Who are you calling an old man? I’m still Young!!
Tsurugi-“You’re straight-up an old man, aren’t you?”
??? -And you guys, are you Jujutsu college students? What are you doing here? A sorcerer in the middle of the countryside?
Tsurugi- How do you know it?
PAGE 10
Nagata- How? I’m a graduate too. Who else besides a sorcerer could do something like this?
Tsurugi-He was senior….
Maru- We came on a extermination mission. We heard that a ‘man-eater’ appeared. So that’s what it is, huh, old man?
Nagata-Who would eat humans!! These days, I’ve been eating nothing properly except alcohol and snacks!
Tsurugi-That in itself is still a problem, you know.
Nagata-I’m Nagata. Like I said earlier, I’m a former sorcerer.
Nagata-The one appearing here is the ‘Man-Eating Tiger.’ Its name is Toranosuke. I am going after it
Tsurugi-Tor—Tiger?? There are wild tigers in Japan?
Maru- Tiger?
Nagata-That was a story from a quarter of a century ago. A pair of tigers was brought in by illegal foreign traders and settled in these mountains. Through inbreeding, Toranosuke is their grandchild.
PAGE 11
Nagata-Since it was a kid, it was a clever tiger. Even without gestures, just by looking into each other’s eyes, we could understand what the other wanted to say.
Nagata-And recently, the mega-solar near the summit reached the end of its lifespan and started flowing. The revival of that supernatural happened. Because of that, the river dried up. Well, it’s also because of the heat.
Nagata-When the river dried up, the ecosystem collapsed. Searching for water sources and prey, Toranosuke came down the mountain and the villagers got attacked. And that’s how it was figured out—the villagers witnessed Nagata trying to take it down.
Tsurugi -I do want to help Nagata, but it’s complicated.
Nagata-But I don’t want to kill Toranosuke, I want to save him.
PAGE 12
Tsurugi-Any animal that has killed a person must be exterminated. All the more so if it has developed a taste for humans.
Nagata-I don’t need a kid to lecture me I already know.
But this time the circumstances are different we drove it from its home for human reasons, and now we’re going to kill it for human reasons?
My house is pretty far from the village — I don’t get along with the people there.
Tsurugi-So you mean you could keep a tiger there safely?
Nagata-I’m a sorcerer who can keep things under control — handling one or two tigers is nothing.
Tsurugi-Of course that’s not allowed!
Nagata-If we’re really talking about the natural ecosystem, then Renosuke’s grandparents should’ve been exterminated back then.
But I chose the path of coexistence I can’t change my mind now.
Maru- Coexistence!
Please, I’m asking you seriously from the bottom of my heart.
Tsurugi-No — if that tiger kills someone again, what could you possibly do?
Nagata-What, you want me to slit my stomach or something
PAGE 13
Tsurugi-I’m telling you that relying on your guts won’t help either the victims or their families at all.
Nagata-This is as far as it goes.
Nagata-What do you think I lowered the barrier for!!! A sense of smell specialized for the scent of blood!!! You’re there, aren’t you! Toranosuke!!!
PAGE 14
Nagata-That’s right. You’ve always been clever, even back in the day.
Tsurugi-Nagata-San!!!
PAGE 15
Maru- Tsurugi Wait!!
Nagata- No, It’s fine
PAGE 16
Maru-Nagata-San!!!
it’s alright. I’m alone too.
PAGE 17
Sorry, sorry! Mom was still around!!, But parents will always die before us, sooner or later.Loneliness isn’t necessarily all bad — it will surely make you stronger.Even so—if it ever comes to where nothing can be done, Come to me anytime!!
If you came to see me, I thought maybe… but at that moment, the you from back then was already gone…!!! ‘It’s no use anymore…
PAGE 18
Nagata-At the very least, without making you suffer… I’m sorry, Toranosuke. Please,I beg you!!!!!
PAGE 19
Nagata-“Sorry for making you take on such a role.
Tsurugi- It’s fine. It’s my job.
Nagata- You really are a sorcerer.
Tsurugi- Maru?!
Maru-Our task is to gather information to judge whether we and humans can coexist. That’s my role. My technique is something I share with my twin younger brother, so its use is prohibited except in emergencies.
Tsurugi- Twin Brother?!!
PAGE 20
Maru-If I use my power in a big way, it will be passed on to my younger brother. If a situation arose where I had no choice but to use my power, I thought it would worsen humans’ impression of us. That’s why I hesitated last time.
Maru-It’s not that I was taking the life of a human child lightly. I’m Sorry
Tsurugi-Are you sure you should be telling me this?
Maru-No — I’d appreciate it if you kept it secret.
Tsurugi-What made you decide to tell me?
Maru- I Want to get along
PAGE 21
This tiger and us,the aliens might be the same. we can communicate with words. If so,I want to use every word to express “myself.”
Tsurugi-So you were there…
Maru- Seriously ?
Nagata- Wait!
PAGE 22
Tsurugi-Nagata-san,this time, don’t take your eyes off him.
Nagata- Yes!
PAGE 23( FINAL PAGE )
Maru- Is it okay?
Tsurugi-It’s not about whether it’s okay or not…What will happen to that guy,is still unknown to anyone.Same goes for us.
Maru-That’s right!
???? -You look just like I did when I was young.
